Coaches are the lifeblood of sport.
To maintain participation and attract new people to take part it is important to have a range of well qualified, skilled and enthusiastic paid staff and volunteers.
In partnership with Governing Bodies, Sports Coach UK, Children 1st and other training providers; Live Active Leisure work to provide opportunities for coaches, volunteers and officials who are in involved in the delivery of sport locally.
On an annual basis we put together a calendar of courses and workshops that provide club volunteers the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and knowledge relating to generic topics such as Child Protection and First Aid. Please check our Personal Development Workshop page to see this year’s list of dates.
Additional dates or courses may be organised if there is demand - please contact us to discuss further.
In addition to these generic courses, in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport, we try to bring sport specific courses to Perth and Kinross where we know there is demand to help support our clubs and programmes. Please check our Sport Specific Training Courses page to see if there are any organised for the coming months.
In partnership with the Gannochy Trust, Live Active Leisure is committed to developing sport in Perth and Kinross. Through this partnership, support is provided to assist the creation and long term development of coaches at all levels.
Grant funding is available to support coaches to meet the costs towards recognised NGB awards. Typically, coaches are able to access between 50 - 75% of costs if all criteria are met but please check the guidance notes for further details.
There is also funding for local sports organisations to allow them to support the development of the people who are integral to their success and sustainability. This could be to develop mentoring schemes, to provide coaching workshops locally or to support leadership within clubs.
For full details on the above, please click through to our Funding Page.
At LAL we also offer a 6 week programme that gives coaches an introduction to the activities that contribute to physical preparation, so that they can provide better support to their squads and club athletes. All sessions are overseen by an experienced Strength and Conditioning coach.
To take part in the programme coaches must:
* Be a lead coach with a minimum of a level 2 qualification or equivalent
* Be actively coaching an age group squad/or team in the club within Perth and Kinross
* Be able to bring a junior athlete to the sessions to help the coach in their learning outcomes
