Jim Moyes
Chief Executive Officer

At Live Active Leisure, we never lose sight of the fact that we have people to thank for our success. As a Company we are committed to supporting and developing our staff in line with the needs and aspirations of both the business and its employees wherever possible. In such a ‘people business’ it is people; colleagues and customers alike, that make it such a rewarding business to be involved in. A day never passes without the opportunity for all of us to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
There is no better way to find out what life is really like at Live Active Leisure than from our employees. Each has a different story, a different career path and a different day-to-day life at Live Active Leisure. Our employees’ stories will give you an inside look at what a career at Live Active Leisure could be like for you.

Fiona Melloy
Facility Operations Manager – Live Active Letham & North Inch Community Campus, Perth

After leaving college, I took up a year’s placement working in Switzerland teaching sports in a Private School. On returning in 1991, I landed my dream job, working with children and teaching sport in a new community facility in the Letham Area.

After many years coaching, I decided to take the next step up the ladder and move into the management side of things and this is were I have really found my feet and relished the new challenges ahead, leading a small team. After 18 years I am still with the Company, now having another facility under my remit, the North Inch Community Campus. It has brought fresh challenges and a different direction to partnership working, which I thoroughly enjoy. I think it speaks volumes about the Company that you can start at the bottom of the ladder and be offered the guidance, support and encouragement for personal development and to have the opportunities to progress within the Company.

Rich Lawrence
Senior Leisure Assistant – Live Active Atholl, Pitlochry

I started in my centre when it was a privately run facility, which was taken over by Live Active Leisure not long after. I have worked here since 1998, and after starting as a Relief Leisure Assistant with a handful of Standard Grades, have worked to gain qualifications in Sports Coaching, Management, Health and Safety Awareness, and have also become a part of the Company’s Training Team, delivering First Aid courses to internal and external candidates alike.

I always wanted to join the Leisure Industry as I knew a 9 to 5 desk job was just not for me and I had a real passion for sport and leisure. Every day is varied for us here, as we deliver a wide range of activities to all manner of groups, as well as providing facilities for events, conferences and seminars of all types. From day to day, we will be faced with new challenges and have to come up with new ways of satisfying our customers, which I very much enjoy. We have a small close-knit team here, and we all work well together, and have a few laughs along the way.

Steve McPhee
Duty Leisure Manager - Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth

Whilst still at Secondary School and with an HNC in Sports Coaching fast approaching I contacted Bell’s Sports Centre and applied for a relief post to coincide with my studies and other work I was doing at the time. At the age of 17 I had some idea about what I wanted to do but no real idea of how to achieve any of my goals. I now work with a great team and manage one of the largest sports centre’s in the country.

When I started work at “Bell’s” the organisation was relatively small and the Company name was “Perth and Kinross Recreation Facilities”. It has been great to have been a part of the change and development over the past few years including two name changes and the addition of many fantastic new sports venues in the Perthshire area.
I’ve worked in many of the current 14 venues and, with lots of training, in lots of different capacities. I originally started as a Relief Leisure Assistant working the odd evening and weekend shift but I have also tried my hand at General Assistant work, Sports Coaching and I was part of the Activity Team that implemented and managed the original “Motiv8” programme from 2002.

In my current post no two days are the same. At present I work alongside two other Duty Managers and our main responsibilities lie in ensuring that we deliver a high quality standard to all of our customers. Personally I am responsible for managing the Activity Programmes, all Instruction Staff and Staff Training across all staff levels, all of which I enjoy a great deal. I particularly enjoy delivering 1st Aid and Lifeguard training and love having the opportunity to step in and deliver coaching sessions whenever needed!
