Bell's Sports Centre - Closure Updates

Update - Thursday 16th May 2024

Perth and Kinross Council met on Wednesday 15th May 2024 and approved the withdrawal of sport and leisure services and activity at Bell's Sport Centre from August 2024.

The Council decided earlier this year that Bell’s, Dewars Centre and Perth Leisure Pool should be consolidated into one facility, so any reinstatement of Bell’s would be at best temporary and cost in the region of £2 million, which is simply uneconomic. What is more, Bell’s has already suffered two significant floods since 2020 and this would leave an uninsured and uninsurable risk of yet another flood event.

Bell’s Sports Centre has played an important sporting role in the local area and we know it holds a special place in the hearts of generations of users from Perth & Kinross and beyond, so we understand that the end of this facility’s time as a sports centre is disappointing, However, Perth and Kinross Council will be considering proposals later this year on how Bell's can play a new role in our city moving forward.

For Live Active Leisure, our focus now moves on to engaging with sports clubs in regard to their winter bookings which will begin in the coming weeks and on the transfer of our health and fitness offer to Dewars Centre.

Update - Thursday 19th October 2023

We’d like to take a moment to provide you with an update on Bell’s Sports Centre. As you may have seen on the coverage circulating on social media, large parts of Bell’s Sports Centre have been significantly affected by the flood waters during the weekend of the 7th and 8th October. All ground floor areas have been impacted, this includes the Main Arena, Fitness Gym, Fitness Studio 2, Squash Courts, Meeting Rooms, Changing Rooms and Ancillary areas. We are continuing to assess the damage in these areas, but they will remain closed at this time. Further updates will be provided when more information is available.

However, we are pleased to confirm that customers will be able to return to fitness classes in our first floor Fitness Studios from Monday 23rd October. The revised class programme will be delivered between Bell’s Sports Centre and Dewars Centre. You can find out more about the classes and how to book in the ‘Fitness Class’ section below.

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We have been overwhelmed by the messages of support from our customers. Your kind words mean a lot to the whole team who are working tirelessly to get Bell’s Sports Centre back up and running again.

Many of you may not know that Live Active Leisure is a registered charity, and every penny we make is reinvested back into our venues and the services that we provide, many of you have asked how you can support us during this time, and whilst we appreciate that not everyone will be in a position to help, things such as choosing not to freeze your membership or making a donation will be greatly appreciated. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here

Fitness Classes

A temporary timetable of fitness classes will resume from Monday 23rd October with classes taking place in our upstairs fitness studios at Bell’s Sports Centre and at Dewars Centre.

Classes will be available to book from Friday 20th October. Please note, due to ongoing technical difficulties with phone line and internet connection at Bell’s Sports Centre, all fitness classes must be booked online via our website or App which is available from Google Play or the App Store.

We expect our classes to be busy, therefore we kindly request that you only book a class space if you intend to go, and if you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible to give others the chance to attend.

Please note that for anyone attending classes at Bell’s Sports Centre, access to the Cycle Studio may be through an alternative entrance at times, however we will advise upon arrival at reception.  Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to provide access to changing rooms due to the damage caused.  There are toilets available in the main foyer.

Sportshall Activities

Although we are unable to offer sportshall activities such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Sqush etc at the moment, our other Live Active venues do offer these activities.  North Inch Campus in Perth is available for a range of sports including, badminton, table tennis, tennis/short tennis, basketball, 5-a-side and more in their indoor sportshalls and outdoor pitches.  The Campus is open Monday to Friday 17:00 - 21:00 and Saturday & Sunday 09:00 - 13:00.

For those looking for squash courts, courts are available in Live Active Loch Leven, Kinross, Strathearn Campus, Crieff and Breadalbane Campus, Aberfeldy.  We recommend booking in advance for all activities.

Update - Wednesday 18th October 2023

Unfortunately, due to the severe weather that took place over the weekend, Bell’s Sports Centre has experienced significant flooding and will remain closed at this time. We are in the process of assessing the impact of the flooding and we will provide further updates when available.

In the meantime, there’s still plenty of ways to stay active in Perth at our other venues which include gym, swim and sportshall options.

You can view the range of activities available at all our venues including opening times on our website.
