In September, Live Active Leisure celebrated the launch of the new, inclusive and innovative, state of the art Gym and Fitness studios at Dewars Centre.

The opening weekend attracted nearly 400 customers from Perth and surrounding areas with a mix of junior, adult, and senior visitors, eager to participate in activities, and get a first look at the revamped space.

To mark the opening, Live Active Leisure offered a 7-day free pass to anyone interested in trying out the gym, with 485 customers taking advantage of the offer.

The new facilities at Dewars are designed to cater for all usersdewarsgym003 xgaplus.  Since the September opening, the gym and studios have had over 12,000 visits from more than 1,700 different customers, a testament to the venue’s appeal and inclusivity. The user base spans a varied age range, with 20% aged 11-17 and 11% aged over 65.  With the youngest visitor so far, aged 11 and the oldest 88.  The facilities are also being used by both future and current Olympic and Commonwealth athletes as well as those just starting their fitness journey.

Reinforcing the venues' commitment to accessibility, the gym features an open layout and a diverse range of Matrix gym equipment with specific pieces of kit that support the use of adapted exercise. This means that regardless of a customer’s fitness level or ability there is an option to suit.

In addition, the Live Active Leisure Wellbeing Team work in partnership with a number of local groups to offer 12 activity referral classes per week in the new facilities.  These classes cater for customers who have been referred by a health care professional and who may require some additional support to improve their physical and mental health.

Graeme Lackie, Activity Programming & Fitness Manager for Live Active Leisure, said: "The response so far has been incredible, with people of all ages and abilities getting active. Our goal was to create a space where everyone feels encouraged to improve their health and wellbeing.

“The variety of classes and equipment we offer are being used by a wide range of customers, and it’s inspiring to see everyone from teens to seniors making use of the facilities.  It’s also fantastic to see so many familiar faces”.

As part of Live Active Leisure’s commitment to continuous improvement, the Fitness team are continuing to develop and adapt the class programme based on user feedback and industry trends.

The building work to create new changing rooms and showers is underway and is expected to be completed early in the New Year, which will further enhance the customer experience and leave no excuse for not getting that early morning session done before work.
