Fun Fit Families- Live Active Supports Community Sports Hubs
The Eastern Perthshire Community Sports Hub successfully bid for and received £25k from the NHS to deliver the Fun Fit Families project. The funding is being used to employ a Fun Fit Families Coordinator and pay for the resources needed to run the project. Eastern Perthshire has multiple areas of deprivation and health inequalities. The hub identified a community need and put in place the Fun Fit Families project to help combat this. The project is helping to increase the health and wellbeing activity levels of the community.
The Fun Fit Families project is being delivered in the Blairgowrie cluster primary schools. 5 primary schools are signed up to the project and over 35 families within those schools are attending sessions regularly. The sessions started at the end of January 2023 and each school has received 10 Fun Fit Families sessions. The hub is working with local clubs to deliver the sports during the sessions. The aim is for families to experience new sports and encourage them to continue lifelong participation in physical activity by joining the club. In addition, the project aims to provide healthy eating education to families attending, whilst also improving relationships between families.
The hub identified a community need and worked together with Active Schools, our Live Active Sport Development Officer, schools and other partner organisation to establish the Fun Fit Families Project.
