D is for Development and Training

Every year, we provide certified training courses for individuals and local businesses, plus Personal Development Workshops for sports coaches and volunteers.

Some of our 2023 courses include:

❇️ Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport

❇️ Sports First Aid

❇️ Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health Awareness

❇️ First Aid at Work

❇️ National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

What’s more – clubs that are accredited through Perth and Kinross’s Accredited Club Excellence Scheme can receive free spaces on some of the courses. We even work in partnership with The Gannochy Trust to provide individual coaching grants meaning local coaches could get up to 75% off the course fee!

Our Training and Development Officer Kevin has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, we caught up with him for a chat to find out more about his role at Live Active and the courses on offer:

What is your position within Live Active Leisure?

Training and Development Officer

What do you love most about your job?

When delivering courses, seeing the difference in the candidates at the end of the course compared to the start in terms of how much they have learned and developed.

Tell us one thing we didn’t know about you?

I’m a big Baseball fan and have been to a game at 27 of the 30 major league stadiums in America – just Arizona, Colorado and Atlanta to tick off the list!

Are you active in your spare time? If so, what activities do you do?

Yes. Mostly running and some strength training in the Gym. And chasing after my two-year-old daughter!

What training courses does Live Active offer?

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC), Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work. We will soon be offering a combined First Aid and Paediatric First Aid at Work course too.

Can anyone attend these courses?

anyone aged 16 years old or over can attend the First Aid courses. For NPLQ and NRASTC, as well as being 16 years old or over, you need to have a reasonable swimming ability. You don’t need to be a “Club Level” swimmer but you need to be able to swim 100m continuously on your front and back.

Where can people find out more information about these courses?

You can find information on the courses we run at www.liveactive.co.uk/opportunities/development or if you would like further information on course content you can visit the Royal Life Saving Society website on www.rlss.org.uk and clicking on “What We Do” followed by “Our Qualifications”.
