Active Schools Volunteer Highlight
James Knight, father of two extremely energetic young boys (one of our amazing parents) was back in Forgandenny Primary School running a lunch time rugby club for the younger pupils.
“I was brought up in a family of rugby lovers where many a day was spent watching and commenting on games around the world. When my own boys came along, I wanted them to be introduced to the game as soon as possible. As a passionate rugby player, I knew the sport was a great choice to help grow their confidence, not to mention an ideal outlet for them to run off some of their limitless energy!”
Ongoing opportunities for sport volunteering with Active Schools
Active Schools always welcome new volunteers to help grow sustainable extracurricular sport activities across primary and secondary schools. Whether you are looking to boost your CV, gain more experience as a coach, network or just give back to communities, we can help you get going. Although we cannot pay you back in cash, we can support you with ongoing industry CPD and provide you with exciting opportunities in local communities because you can make a difference.
What would this involve?
- Normal commitment is 45/60-minute session, once a week over a 4-to-6-week block. This could be once a term, once a year or even more
- Activities take place either before school, lunchtimes, or after school
- You do not need to be a qualified coach; a bit of experience and enthusiasm is enough to begin with
- We can help with session plans / ideas / paperwork – all we need is you and your enthusiasm
