Active Schools are responsible for developing and supporting volunteer led, sustainable physical activity and sport opportunities that take place out with school hours, both within the school and wider community.
Recruiting, supporting, training and sustaining a network of volunteers including senior pupils, coaches, leaders and teachers who in turn deliver physical activity and sport opportunities is a key role of our Active Schools staff. Active Schools is looking to expand its volunteer network, and is able to offer access training opportunities to volunteers who meet the criteria.
You don't have to be a special type of person to volunteer, anyone can do it. You do not need to know about sport, you only need to know about children. Working with children is fun and makes you feel good about yourself. If you are enthusiastic and would like to work with children then your Active Schools Coordinator would like to hear from you.
Please do not be put off if you have never done anything like this before as training and support will be provided. We are flexible in our approach to volunteers and we will try to work around your availability. If you are able to deliver two 6-8 week blocks of activity across the school year then that would be fantastic.
Anyone who wishes to become a volunteer for Active Schools may be required to complete a Disclosure Scotland PVG application
