Buddy Walking

An adult and an older person walking hand in hand across a grassy garden, viewed from behind, with the older person using a walking stick and trees and shrubs surrounding the lawn.
An older adult using a walking frame while moving along a garden path filled with blooming pink flowers, accompanied by another adult walking alongside for support, with dense greenery and trees surrounding the path.

One-to-One support for those looking to increase their walking levels.

Our 1-2-1 Buddy Walking project is another of Live Active Leisure’s referral programmes – in this case targeting individuals who lack the confidence, support or ability to leave their house on foot unaccompanied.

Our supportive staff member meets referred individuals at their front door, once a week for 8 consecutive weeks, supporting them to slowly increase the length or difficulty of the walk as the weeks progress.

Our Aim

The aim of the project is that by the end of the 8-week intervention, the participant is confident and able enough to make short journeys on foot within their community, which they wouldn’t have been able to make otherwise.

Not only does this initiative support greater independence and health improvements for the individuals who take part, but it also supports sustainable transport and therefore has a positive environmental impact.
