Dress Code
Choosing the right outfit for gymnastics is essential for safety, comfort, and performance.
Our gymnastics dress code ensures every child can move freely, confidently, and safely during their class.
Why the Right Gymnastics Clothing Matters
Wearing the correct gymnastics clothing helps prevent injuries, supports movement, and keeps children comfortable. Following the gymnastics dress code also ensures gymnasts stay focused and ready to learn.
What Should My Child Wear to Gymnastics?
A classic gymnastics leotard is the best option. It allows full movement without catching on equipment. However, other options are suitable too.
- Leotard (short or long sleeves): Provides comfort and freedom of movement.
- T-shirt and shorts (no buttons or zips): A great alternative if a leotard isn’t available.
- Leggings or jogging bottoms: Must be elasticated at the ankles and short enough to avoid tripping.
- Hair must be tied back: Buns, ponytails, or braids help prevent hair from getting caught.
- Fringes should be clipped back: Keeps hair out of the gymnast’s eyes.
- No jewellery: All jewellery must be removed before class. Recently pierced ears should be taped.
- Religious or medical jewellery: Must be covered by a sweatband or securely taped if it poses a safety risk.
Glasses are allowed but must be secure. Sports-specific glasses or a strap can help prevent them from falling off.
- Leotard with shorts or t-shirt and shorts: No buttons or zips.
- Soft jogging bottoms: Must be ankle-length and fitted to avoid tripping.
- Barefoot only: Socks are not allowed due to the risk of slipping.
- Leotard: Short sleeves, long sleeves, or unitard styles are all suitable.
- Shorts or leggings: Can be worn over a leotard.
- Fitted t-shirt and shorts: No buttons or zips.
- Barefoot only: Socks or tights are not allowed to prevent slips.
Our Wee Springers classes encourage climbing, swinging, jumping, and rolling. To ensure maximum fun and safety, children must wear suitable clothing.
- Leggings, shorts, or jogging bottoms: Flexible and comfortable for movement.
- Short-sleeved or long-sleeved t-shirts: Allows easy movement.
- Leotards: Perfect for little gymnasts who want to dress like their heroes.
- No skirts or dresses.
- No crop tops
- No jeans or combat trousers with buttons or zips.
- No tights.
- No cardigans or jumpers.
- No jewellery, including amber teething bracelets or necklaces.
- Stud earrings must be taped.
Gymnasts wearing these items will not be allowed to join the class.
