Pupils from Crieff High School proudly represented Scotland last week at the prestigious UK Table Cricket Finals, held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The team, accompanied by Louis Gallagher (Cricket Development Officer at Live Active Leisure), travelled with family members and staff including Connor Brian of Cricket Scotland, and Crieff High School staff.
For many of the pupils, it was their first time flying, adding to the excitement of the journey. The finals brought together 12 regional champion teams, 10 from England, one from Wales, and Crieff High School representing Scotland. The event took place at the Nursery Ground at Lord’s, where the team competed with enthusiasm and pride.
“It’s been an incredible journey for the Crieff High School team,” said Louis Gallagher. “Their hard work and spirit have truly stood out, and their journey to Lord’s is a powerful reminder of how inclusive sports can inspire and empower young people across Scotland.”
The day was capped off with a special medal presentation by former England captain David Gower and current England international Reece Topley, an unforgettable moment for the young athletes. The group then had the opportunity to watch a mixed disability T20 match between England and India on the main Lord’s Ground, further highlighting the inclusive spirit of the day.
Table Cricket is an adapted version of the traditional game, designed to enable young people with disabilities to participate and compete in cricket. The sport continues to grow in popularity across Scottish schools, promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunities in athletics.
The team’s journey to the finals is a testament to the power of sport in breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all young people to thrive.
